Bakersfield residents have signed over 7,400 petitions calling for stricter rules at Valley Plaza Mall over unsupervised teenagers.
The mall’s website now requires children under 18 to be accompanied by an adult, and local attorney Juan Garza said the policy might raise questions under the Unruh Civil Rights Act.
Local family celebrated today the 100th birthday of World War II Navy veteran Ralph J.
Lopez, who served aboard USS LST 225 and later worked as a welder at Hopper Machine. Relatives from across the region joined the event to honor his legacy.

After a wet November, December started quiet and dry with fall colors emerging across the Kern River Valley.
High pressure will bring milder temperatures to the valley and mountains by midweek while lower temperatures due to Tule fog persist in the South Valley.
🏛️ Government
Kern County will resume issuing oil and gas permits in 2026 after a Dec.
4 court decision discharged a writ; the permitting portal will reopen on Jan. 2, 2026 (Supervisor Jeff Flores confirmed the move), supporting local industry and jobs.
