COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Over 200 volunteers from Upside Academy painted livestock pens at the Kern County Fairgrounds Saturday to prepare for the county fair opening Sept 17 — the work eased tasks for FFA and 4-H members who raise animals for the event.  23ABC News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Shafter Police confirmed an Amtrak train hit a pedestrian on Saturday afternoon near Central Ave. (at Central Valley Hwy) and stated (pending investigation) that local drivers should avoid the intersection.  Bakersfield Now
  • On Saturday afternoon, a motorcyclist was struck on Hwy. 155 just west of Rancheria Rd at around 1:16 p.m. and was airlifted to Kern Medical—CHP is investigating the crash as the cause remains unknown.  Bakersfield Now
  • A person was hit by an Amtrak train Saturday near the rail crossing at Central Valley Highway and Central Avenue in Shafter at 1:45 p.m.—the Amtrak Police Department is investigating the incident and delays of 2–3 hours are expected.  23ABC News

CRIME NEWS

  • On August 29, 2025, deputies from the Kern County Sheriff's Office swept high complaint areas in Bakersfield—arresting 24 individuals for misdemeanors and felonies while Public Works removed debris to restore order.  Bakersfield Now
  • Bakersfield Police arrested a suspect on Saturday morning just before 9 a.m. in a neighborhood near White Lane and Stine Road after a stabbing left a victim with minor injuries; the investigation is ongoing.  Bakersfield Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Gavin Newsom announced a statewide task force to dismantle unsafe encampments on state property and connect individuals to housing, shelter, mental health, and substance use services. The task force will work with local governments in California’s ten largest cities including Bakersfield and will begin operations within 30 days—pushing efforts to address the homelessness crisis.  Bakersfield Now
