- ➤ A fifteen year old girl from Bakersfield drowned near River View Park on July 8 and a 46 year old man from Los Angeles was found unresponsive in the Kern River on July 12; the Kern County Coroner confirmed both deaths as drownings while Bakersfield Police continue their investigation. 23ABC News

- ➤ Daniel Lee Barton, 43, pleaded no contest in May to vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and hit-and-run causing death after he intentionally ran over a motorcyclist in Bakersfield and was sentenced Tuesday to 16 years in prison—other charges were dropped under his plea deal. KGET
- ➤ Bakersfield Police Department is asking for help finding Christy Baca, a 76-year-old at-risk Hispanic woman who was last seen on July 4 at 2:30 p.m. in the 2900 block of M Street and measures 5 feet 5 inches tall while weighing 220 pounds (contact 661-327-7111). Bakersfield Now
- ➤ The Kern County Coroner’s Office identified Leana Margarita Perez, a 23-year-old from Bakersfield, who was shot at Heritage Park around 1:25 a.m. on July 12 and later pronounced dead at Kern Medical—Bakersfield Police are investigating the incident. KGET
- ➤ Human remains found in April on the 9000 block of Redwood Boulevard in California City have been identified by the Kern County Coroner’s Office as missing 73-year-old Phillip Wayne Whitmill, who was last seen on October 18, 2024 and died of natural causes per autopsy+DNA testing confirmed his identity on July 9. - ➤ Edward James Pull was sentenced to 120 years to life in prison on Tuesday for the 2017 murder of his father and assault on his mother in Bakersfield—he was convicted on May 23 in a bench trial that noted his use of an AR-15 style rifle and previous felony convictions. Bakersfield Now
- ➤ The Bakersfield Police Department is asking for help to identify a man accused of vandalizing the Fast Break convenience store on June 4th at 4800 White Lane — he is described as around 40 years old, 5’4” tall, and 170 pounds wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with large-print letters, black pants, and white shoes — anyone with tips is urged to contact Detective DiDario or the department. - ➤ The Bakersfield Police Department is asking for help finding 29-year-old Brenda Jacquelin Reyes, who went missing in Oildale on July 12th at about 7:30 p.m.—she is described as 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighing 120 pounds with black hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing a white and black tank top, black leggings, black heels and carrying a black purse while being considered at-risk due to a mental health condition. - ➤ On July 11, Bakersfield police held a DUI and driver's license checkpoint at Anita Lane and Ming Avenue near Valley Plaza Mall, screening 1,041 vehicles—citing one driver for being unlicensed, two for a suspended license, detaining one for evaluation, impounding four vehicles, and later making 60 stops that led to 24 more citations, 12 additional impoundments, and arrests for DUI, felony warrants, and illegal marijuana sales.
