A Kern County Sheriff's deputy tried to stop a white Buick Century near County Line Road on Famoso Porterville Highway on Tuesday, June 10, but after the driver drove over 100 mph and threw objects the chase ended when the car crashed into a utility pole— the driver was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene while handgun magazines with ammunition were later found in the vehicle.

Bakersfield Police are asking for help finding 12-year-old Anson Chavez who was last seen Wednesday at 5 p.m. in the 1600 block of 3rd Street wearing a black shirt, black pants and black and white shoes—he is considered at risk as this is his first reported runaway case.

Police identified 19-year-old Nathon Michael Ramirez as the alleged drunken driver who ran a red light Tuesday near the intersection of Union and East California—his white BMW hit a Dodge Charger with a green light, killing the 27-year-old driver and injuring a 20-year-old passenger—and he remains hospitalized with moderate injuries.

Bakersfield College celebrated a milestone on June 11 with a ribbon cutting for its new Renegade Athletic Complex at the Panorama Campus and dedicated the weight room as the Carl Bowser Performance Enhancement and Training Facility to honor the coach's legacy.
