- ➤ A Kern County Sheriff's deputy tried to stop a white Buick Century near County Line Road on Famoso Porterville Highway on Tuesday, June 10, but after the driver drove over 100 mph and threw objects the chase ended when the car crashed into a utility pole— the driver was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene while handgun magazines with ammunition were later found in the vehicle. - ➤ Bakersfield Police are asking for help finding 12-year-old Anson Chavez who was last seen Wednesday at 5 p.m. in the 1600 block of 3rd Street wearing a black shirt, black pants and black and white shoes—he is considered at risk as this is his first reported runaway case. KGET
- ➤ Police identified 19-year-old Nathon Michael Ramirez as the alleged drunken driver who ran a red light Tuesday near the intersection of Union and East California—his white BMW hit a Dodge Charger with a green light, killing the 27-year-old driver and injuring a 20-year-old passenger—and he remains hospitalized with moderate injuries. - ➤ Bakersfield College celebrated a milestone on June 11 with a ribbon cutting for its new Renegade Athletic Complex at the Panorama Campus and dedicated the weight room as the Carl Bowser Performance Enhancement and Training Facility to honor the coach's legacy. - ➤ Kern Water Collaborative is accepting applications from Kern County residents to test water wells, and free bottled water will be given if tests show high nitrate levels (eligible communities include Buttonwillow, Wasco, Lost Hills, Delano, McFarland, Shafter, and Rosedale). Residents will receive a well test access agreement by email or text that must be signed and returned. KGET

- ➤ The Kern County Board of Supervisors is set to vote on a plan to allow Uber to join Lyft in running rides from Meadows Field Airport starting July 1—if approved, both companies will pay $3 per vehicle pickup and drop-off during a three-year term that automatically renews unless notice is given. - ➤ Bakersfield residents will face higher water bills starting next month after the city council approved a five-year water rate hike set to increase rates by 50.8%—with the highest increase of 34% from the 2020-2026 fiscal period—as water quality treatment and conservation needs prompted the change despite 77 written protests.
