Rabbi Eli Schlanger, the brother of a Bakersfield rabbi, was killed on Sunday while preparing for a Chanukah menorah lighting in Australia amid a terror attack at Bondi Beach that injured dozens and claimed 16 lives.

Chabad of Bakersfield held a menorah lighting yesterday in southwest Bakersfield after announcing that the co-director’s brother was killed in the Bondi Beach attack in Australia where 14 others died.

The event featured music, face painting, and dreidel play as the community grieved its loss.
