GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Kern County Sheriff's Office is hosting its final hiring event of the year today at the regional training center on Norris Road. Candidates should wear athletic clothing as they will have a chance to practice the physical ability test starting at 8:00 a.m. — testing begins at 10:00 a.m.  23ABC News
  • A Kern County Superior Court judge lifted the order blocking oil permits, potentially ending a dispute that lasted since 2015 (the move restarts the county's permitting process).  The Bakersfield Californian

HEALTH NEWS

  • Mercy Southwest Hospital will open its Thomas M. Hardt Tower on Monday, Dec. 8, adding 106 beds and advanced services to ease capacity challenges. The $47-million expansion includes an intensive care unit, expanded women’s services, and 370 parking spaces while creating 240 jobs in Bakersfield.  23ABC News
