- ➤ Salvation Army in Bakersfield has launched its red kettle campaign for the holiday season, running from Nov. 21 to Dec. 24 and collecting spare change and donations from 10 Kern County locations such as Hobby Lobby on California Ave — all funds will remain in the community. - ➤ Tehachapi Valley Horse Rescue, a nonprofit in Kern County, is calling on the community to help care for horses and other equines in need. The volunteer-run organization based in Bear Valley Springs will hold fundraisers, including a cookie sale on Dec. 13 and a Polar Plunge on Super Bowl Sunday — and it operates a horse equipment store where proceeds benefit its mission.
