COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Salvation Army in Bakersfield has launched its red kettle campaign for the holiday season, running from Nov. 21 to Dec. 24 and collecting spare change and donations from 10 Kern County locations such as Hobby Lobby on California Ave — all funds will remain in the community. Local celebrities will join bell ringers as donors can also use a tap-to-give feature with credit cards.  Bakersfield Now
  • Tehachapi Valley Horse Rescue, a nonprofit in Kern County, is calling on the community to help care for horses and other equines in need. The volunteer-run organization based in Bear Valley Springs will hold fundraisers, including a cookie sale on Dec. 13 and a Polar Plunge on Super Bowl Sunday — and it operates a horse equipment store where proceeds benefit its mission.  Bakersfield Now

  • Cal State Bakersfield has launched its first university-branded beer — Runner Gold — at the Icardo Center in collaboration with local breweries Templar and Lengthwise Brewing Company. A portion of the proceeds will support CSUB Athletics by funding student athlete scholarships.  23ABC News
  • TehachaPIE at Mill Kitchen in Tehachapi offers a wide range of homemade pies, sugar cookies, and other treats as holiday demand grows for Thanksgiving next week—customers are encouraged to pre-order by phone or text for faster pickup.   • Kern County Public Works said the storm ended earlier this week but some roads stayed closed because of flooding, with Adobe Rd. and Edison Rd. affected. CHP Mojave advised drivers to use alternate routes as travelers prepare for Thanksgiving holiday journeys.  Bakersfield Now
