  • The BC Rodeo Team hosted the third annual Bakersfield College Rodeo at the Kern County Fairgrounds on November 8 and 9, drawing over 4800 attendees and featuring more than 200 college athletes competing in events like bull riding, bareback riding and tie down roping. Sponsored by Haddad Dodge/Ram — the weekend also offered live music, over 25 vendor booths and rodeo clowns, and the team is planning next year's event.  Bakersfield College
  • Today is the last day to enter the Last Chance Prize in the 2025 St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway; buying a $100 ticket gives a chance to win a $5,000 VONS gift card while supporting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.   • Family-owned Blue Fig Farms on Stockdale Highway saw sales drop nearly 30% in November after a government shutdown created uncertainty—CalFresh shoppers account for about a quarter of its profit—and the owner now lowers prices to bring back customers. He warned that low spending may force him to reduce employee hours.  23ABC News
  • Hard Rock Casino Tejon opened on Thursday amid heavy winds and a dust storm, yet hundreds of people waited for hours to see a touch of Las Vegas style—marking a vibrant new venue for local entertainment.   • Students at Foothill High School were removed from three portable classrooms this week due to the discovery of fleas — district and pest management experts are working with county representatives to control the situation.  Bakersfield Now
  • The Kern County Board of Education postponed its decision on displaying the Ten Commandments in public schools to allow additional review — officials said more time was needed for research — and will revisit the proposal later.  23ABC News

  • A powerful storm is moving into southcentral California and will bring heavy rains and flooding risks across Kern County this weekend. Saturday may see Meadows Field break its rainfall record if it gets over 0.68 inches of rain — residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel.  Bakersfield Now
  • Strong winds created thick dust clouds on Highway 99 near Tejon that forced drivers to brake suddenly—CHP advises motorists to check tire condition and fluid levels as more extreme weather is expected.  23ABC News
