CRIME NEWS

  • A social media threat at East Bakersfield High School was deemed not credible after the Kern County Sheriff’s Office reviewed posts from Tuesday—district officials said extra officers will secure the campus throughout this week.  Bakersfield Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students preparing for college can get free help with applications and FAFSA at workshops offered every Saturday in November by the Kern County Superintendent of Schools. The sessions run 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Future Readiness Center on Nov. 8, 15 and 22 — with extra workshops at East Kern Community School in Mojave, West Kern Community School in Taft, and McFarland Veterans Community Center — to meet local demand.  Bakersfield Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • California Resources Corp. reached an agreement Tuesday with the power plant owners near McKittrick to capture and bury carbon dioxide emissions from its natural gas-fueled facility.  The Bakersfield Californian

  • At Tuesday’s Kern County Board of Supervisors meeting, assembly member Stan Ellis warned that falling oil production has shrunk refineries from 40 to eight and may trigger an aviation fuel crisis that could drive up gas prices—affecting both military and civilian fuel supplies. He said easing oil rules could help secure steady fuel availability and protect national security.  23ABC News
  • The Kern County Coroner’s Office in Bakersfield is asking the public to help find the next of kin of 61-year-old David Paul Bell—who died on August 15—as the sheriff’s office has not yet found any relatives.  Bakersfield Now
