  • Kern County has boosted California’s economy by contributing $60 billion from its agriculture and oil sectors, including producing nearly 250,000 barrels of oil every day.   • The State Water Board approved Kern County’s SGMA plan to halt groundwater overdraft, but many local farmers remain uncertain about how the new rules will affect their operations. Farmer Terry Chicca said farmers in areas without enough surface water may have to fallow up to 25% of their acreage—raising concerns about the future of local farming.  23ABC News

  • Kern County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services in Bakersfield received $8 million in grant funding to expand mental health and addiction treatment services—adding staff, boosting treatment networks and supporting programs that offer alternatives to incarceration.
