- ➤ Today, the Mission at Kern County will break ground on a 13,000 sq ft facility—adding a larger kitchen that serves about 700 meals daily, a dining room for up to 180 people, a vocational center with 13 computers, and transitional housing for recovery graduates. - ➤ Tim Terrio, president of Terrio Physical Therapy-Fitness, has planned the inaugural Screamer Run on the CSUB campus at dusk on Saturday, October 4 to raise funds for AdaptiSport, Bakersfield’s first fully accessible wellness center set to open later this year or early 2026 at the old Red Door building on 24th Street and Chester Ave—participants will run a 5k or 10k and encounter creepy characters and zombies along the route. 23ABC News

- ➤ Demetrius Ford was convicted by a Kern County jury for attacking Superior Grocer employee Juan Carlos Urvina on New Year's Day 2023 and was sentenced to 11 years in prison—his actions in a parking lot led to fatal injuries. Bakersfield Now
- ➤ Bakersfield police are asking for help finding 14-year-old Isaiah Lovings, who was last seen on September 8th at 7 a.m. in the 5700 block of Pacer Valley Court in the Silver Creek neighborhood—police added he is at risk as this is his first reported disappearance. Bakersfield Now
- ➤ Bakersfield police confirmed that on September 2, 50-year-old Tyrone Alex Watson died after being fatally stabbed on Brown Street—39-year-old Michael Williams was arrested and is set to appear in court on September 15. Bakersfield Now
- ➤ Bakersfield police are searching for 16-year-old Lyla Dawn Howard who was last seen in the 7700 block of Prism Way and ask anyone with information to call 661-327-711. Bakersfield Now
- ➤ A judge ruled that Parish Buzzard, 62, who sent over one hundred threatening emails to a Kern County supervisor in March, is competent to stand trial—he remains in jail without bail and a preliminary hearing is set for Friday. KUZZ
- ➤ An assistant men's basketball coach at Cal State Bakersfield, Mark Mays, 32, pleaded not guilty to human trafficking and related felony charges—including pimping, pandering, drug and gun possession—during his arraignment on September 9th and is set to appear again on September 16th while facing allegations of trafficking a woman along the West Coast on $500,000 bail.
