CRIME NEWS

  • A DUI probation sweep on September 4 in Lamont led officers to arrest Julian Gomez who was wanted on a felony warrant – a home search found two low-caliber rifles, brass knuckles and about one pound of cocaine – and he now faces several charges.  Bakersfield Now
  • On August 17 just before 1 a.m., police responded to a shooting at Panorama Bluffs where 17-year-old Brody Davis died after being struck by a gunshot—19-year-old Sebastian Dominguez, who claimed he accidentally discharged his gun while high on inhalants, was arrested and pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder.  Bakersfield Now
  • The Kern County Sheriff’s Office is asking residents for help finding a woman missing since November—she was last seen by her family.  The Bakersfield Californian
  • Police arrested 32-year-old Kevin Mays for trafficking a woman across three states after an anonymous tip led them to online ads and evidence showing he moved the victim—searches of his car and apartment found a loaded gun, drugs, and other weapons.  Bakersfield Now

  • Eight CSUB business students received scholarships to study abroad for a two-week business course in Paris—financed by former Kern County District Attorney Dr. H. Dennis Beaver and his wife—and returned for the fall semester with boosted confidence and new skills.  Bakersfield Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A pavement rehabilitation project on California Avenue will affect eastbound and northbound lanes between Stockdale Highway and Real Road starting Monday, September 8 with work scheduled each weekday from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.—drivers should plan alternate routes until the project ends on October 27.  Bakersfield Now
