  • Bakersfield Police Officer and Navy veteran Jason White received a mortgage free smart home from the Tunnel to Towers Foundation after a June 2022 medical emergency led to four strokes and recovery facility stays—Bakersfield Police Chief Greg Terry and other law enforcement agencies attended the ceremony to support his family as they begin a new chapter.  Bakersfield Now

  • Police arrested 35-year-old Keiona Hyde on charges of gross vehicular manslaughter and DUI causing death—she is accused in connection with a crash on August 24 at about 1:20 a.m. on Panama Lane and Stine Road in southwest Bakersfield that killed 23-year-old Chasie Aquino Carino of Delano.  Bakersfield Now
  • A rumored threat led to a campus lockdown at Tevis Junior High on September 4 at 8:30 a.m.—a thorough investigation by the Panama-Buena Vista Union School District and Bakersfield Police found the threat non-credible and classes resumed by 9 a.m.  Bakersfield Now
  • The Kern County Sheriff's Office is asking the public for help to find Kelli Amanda Wilson, a 42-year-old woman who was last seen by her family on March 30 and is described as white, 5ft 4in tall and 100 pounds with brown hair, hazel eyes, and tattoos of a devil on her shoulder and two elephants on her chest—she has mental health issues.  Bakersfield Now
  • Michael Keith Williams, 55, who was convicted for a 2000 robbery at a Safe One Credit Union, was granted parole on September 3 despite objections from the District Attorney’s Office—he had been a three-strike offender and was deemed to no longer pose an unreasonable risk to public safety.  Bakersfield Now
  • On September 4 at 5:11 a.m., officers from the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, the Los Angeles Police Department, District Attorney’s Office, and Department of Fish and Wildlife arrested three Mexican nationals suspected of running a large meth lab in eastern Kern County and seized 762 pounds of meth — 100 pounds in solution — from the 19000 block of Desert View Avenue in North Edwards as the suspects tried to flee, and they now face multiple gun and drug charges.  KUZZ
  • An 18-year-old driver, Gerard Laura, was arrested on September 3—charged with gross vehicular manslaughter and reckless driving causing great bodily injury—after a two-vehicle collision on May 10 near Valley Plaza Mall killed 23-year-old Jesus Alexis Beltran Aragon and injured two others.  Bakersfield Now

  • Yesterday, Bakersfield Police held a community meeting at Larry E. Reider Education Center to discuss a revised use-of-force policy that emphasizes de-escalation and accountability. Police Chief Greg Terry said officers used new guidelines to lower force levels—public review of the draft is open online for the next two weeks.  23ABC News
  • The Bakersfield Police Department presented its revised use-of-force policy at its first community meeting yesterday, developed with input from the Community Advisory Panel and a DOJ monitor group — the updated guidelines clarify resistance levels, de‐escalation techniques, and accountability measures and will remain open for online public input for two weeks.  Bakersfield Now
