ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A multi-vehicle collision on Frazier Mountain Park Road near Arroyo Trail on Sunday just before 2:30 p.m.—involving a white Chevrolet Trailblazer and a silver Toyota Prius with one vehicle found on its roof and a person trapped—resulted in major injuries while emergency responders arrived soon after.  Bakersfield Now
  • A head-on collision on Taft Highway left one person dead at 3:31 p.m. when a black pickup truck veered into oncoming traffic and struck another truck—CHP and the coroner responded as the investigation continues.  Bakersfield Now

CRIME NEWS

  • A Kern County Sheriff’s enforcement sweep — targeting loitering and trespassing in areas with local complaints — led to 24 arrests Friday.  The Bakersfield Californian
  • Police investigated a stabbing that occurred Saturday morning near White Lane and Stine Road, where the victim sustained minor injuries, and made an arrest while asking anyone with information to call Bakersfield Police Department (661) 327-7111.  KUZZ
  • Residents at Harmony Court report frequent trespassing and break-ins that damage property and leave them afraid—one resident said groups of five or six trespassers were seen at 3:00 a.m.—while management has offered little help and the sheriff’s office advises filing reports online.  23ABC News
  • Bakersfield Police Department is asking for help in locating a missing 17-year-old boy who is considered at risk because he has not been previously reported missing—neighbors are urged to share any information.  The Bakersfield Californian

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, California lawmakers rejected Assembly Bill 712—known as Leno’s Law—that would have exempted classic cars 35 years or older from biennial smog checks, a proposal led by state senator Shannon Grove and former Tonight Show host Jay Leno. The Assembly Appropriations Committee voted to keep the current rule that only exempts vehicles built in 1975 or earlier.  KUZZ
