- ➤ The Kern County Sheriff's Office is investigating a deadly shooting on August 15 in east Bakersfield on the 2900 block of Edison Highway+ a man died after being taken to a nearby hospital and detectives have not released suspect or victim identities. Bakersfield Now
- ➤ Sebastian Dominguez, 19, pleaded not guilty in court today for the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Brody Davis at Panorama Park after a weekend altercation—he is held without bail and faces preliminary hearings on August 28 and 29. 23ABC News
- ➤ Bakersfield police are asking for help locating Carlos Simental, a 66-year-old man with a medical condition who was last seen Tuesday, August 19 at 10:00 a.m. in the 7200 block of Brenthouse Street near Mountain Vista Drive and Berkshire Road—he is described as 5 feet 9 inches tall, 130 pounds, bald with brown eyes and wearing a gray baseball cap, blue medical mask, blue sweater, blue jeans and black shoes. - ➤ The Bakersfield Police Department is accepting applications for its Citizen Volunteer Unit, where community members will help at events, safety fairs, patrolling, and administrative tasks + provide extra eyes and hands for the department. Applicants must be at least 18 with a valid Driver’s License, a high school diploma or GED, and pass a background check. Bakersfield Now
- ➤ Caltrans announced today that one-way traffic control will start on Highway 33 west of Bakersfield from Highway 46 to Brown Material Road for culvert installation and will run 24/7 until November 1—drivers are advised to stay alert around work zones. Bakersfield Now
- ➤ On Tuesday, Kern County Board of Supervisors backed an external review of child protective services after more than a dozen local residents testified that the system is failing—raising concerns over the safety of children.
