- ➤ North of the River Recreation and Park District will begin its TotalFit Circuit on Monday, August 11, running until Friday, September 15 for $69, and will host a six-week Super Smash Bros. Ultimate league on Saturdays for $150 with a separate program for ages 3 to 6 costing $69 — the events give residents both fitness and gaming choices — as part of the district’s fall offerings. - ➤ An unidentified man died in hospital after a head-on crash on Thursday at about 2:20 p.m. on Rosamond Boulevard—west of 45th Street—while Jonathon Rubio is hospitalized with major injuries amid suspected impaired driving. KGET
- ➤ Two people, Marlon Ledezma aged 34 and Juan Gurrola aged 47, were arrested early Friday after a shooting on North Chester Ave — Ferguson Ave area in Oildale — where one person was severely wounded and taken to a hospital; both are set to appear in court on August 5. KGET

- ➤ California has completed a multi-year initiative by adding the final two Sikorsky S-70i Fire Hawk helicopters to its firefighting fleet—making it the largest civilian helicopter firefighting force in the world.
