- ➤ Luis Soto-Espinoza, 26, appeared Tuesday in court and faces charges including first-degree murder for fatally stabbing Adrienne Monique Ramos and attacking another person early on July 5 at the 6400 block of Springtime Court in southwest Bakersfield—officers said he was taken into custody after harming himself. - ➤ A Taft man named Alejandro Padilla Jr.—wanted in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that killed a motorcyclist on July 27th at 10:43 a.m.—surrendered to KCSO at the courthouse and was booked on charges of hit-and-run causing death and vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence. - ➤ CHP arrested 16 drivers for DUI on July 26 in Kern County as part of its RAID operation, which aimed to remove impaired drivers from the road—CHP plans to continue similar enforcement across the Central Valley. Bakersfield Now
- ➤ At about 11 a.m. Monday on Eton Street in northeast Bakersfield, police said Kani Armani Jones, 21, shot two people during an argument over a clothing purchase, injuring one person in critical but stable condition before arresting him on charges of attempted murder and conspiracy (bail set at $1-million). - ➤ Police charged 40-year-old Juan Jose Rangel with three DUI-related felonies — including vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated — after his pickup drifted into the northbound lane on Fairfax Road early Sunday, killing driver Salvador Gallegos Jr. and prompting his not guilty plea on Tuesday afternoon. - ➤ A 28-year-old man was sentenced to life without parole for a deadly car-to-car shooting in central Bakersfield after he followed Michael Rico Stubbs (32) for several blocks before firing at him at a red light on March 22, 2022, where Stubbs sustained fatal head and neck wounds. KGET
- ➤ On June 21, a red SUV driven by 30-year-old Reginald Moland Jr.—who had a 0.30% BAC and prior DUI convictions—hit a pedestrian on Baker Street and then crashed into a minivan that burst into flames, killing the pedestrian and the minivan driver; authorities charged him with second-degree murder, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, hit and run, DUI causing injury and driving on a license suspended or revoked for DUI. - ➤ Broadway in Bakersfield returns for the 2025-2026 season as Dignity Health Theater partnered with Nederlander National Markets to produce three shows — Hadestown, Tina The Tina Turner Musical, and Clue Live on Stage!
