ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Taft Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash on the 1000 block of Kern Street in Taft when a white Chevrolet Silverado hit a Harley Davidson at around 10:43 a.m. on Sunday+ the truck fled the scene+ an adult male was pronounced dead. KGET
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Bakersfield man died after being shot on the 800 block of Beardsley Avenue in Oildale when Mitchell Lee Farley, 38, lost his life on July 12—Kern County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the homicide. KGET
- ➤ Bakersfield Police Department is investigating a homicide on the 900 block of Nimrod Ct where officers responded at (9:45 p.m.) Sunday night to a shooting that left one person fatally injured; no suspect details have been released. KGET
- ➤ Alan Booth, 74, is accused of driving drunk and reversing his truck into a crowd at the 2023 Bakersfield Christmas Parade, injuring three people, and his trial has been postponed to September 15 as he faces charges (assault, DUI, and resisting arrest) while being held without bail (for allegedly driving on a suspended license and exceeding the legal blood alcohol limit). - ➤ Police are searching for the driver of a pickup who struck and killed a motorcycle rider in Taft at (10:45 a.m.) Sunday on Kern Street, just west of Cascade Place; a man was seen running south (in the 1100 block of Kern Street) after the crash. KUZZ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Monday, the County of Kern settled with former chief deputy Justin Fleeman by paying him $300,000 after he claimed he was fired for challenging Sheriff Donny Youngblood in the 2018 election. The county admitted no wrongdoing but agreed to seal his personnel file — and to provide him a retirement identification badge and not oppose his concealed carry permit. KUZZ
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Brandon Hicks, a 10-year veteran of the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, was hospitalized after being diagnosed with lymphoma following leg swelling on July 2. Doctors are keeping him stable while they decide on the best treatment (the Peace Officers Research Association of California is raising funds to help cover his care and family expenses). KGET
