  • Tifa Chocolate & Gelato opened its new Bakersfield location on July 25 — offering coffee, teas, cookies, gelato, and other treats — and it will operate Monday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.  KGET

CRIME NEWS

  • Five men were found guilty in two gang-related shootings in 2021 that left Mario Bravo dead — the jury reached its verdict on July 23 and sentencing is set for August 20.  Bakersfield Now
  • Bakersfield Police seek public help in finding Aaliyah Salgado, a missing 12-year-old girl last seen on July 24 at 8 p.m. in the 7700 block of Prism Way near Stine Road and Berkshire Road—she is Hispanic, 5'4 in height and weighs 150 pounds while wearing a black shirt and black and red pajama pants, and anyone with information should call Bakersfield Police at 6613277111.  Bakersfield Now
  • A man accused of armed robberies in McFarland and Tulare County was arrested in Lancaster on July 24 after police tracked him from a July 21 incident at Browning Road Park—30-year-old Marquece Pikes now faces charges including robbery and a bail set at $500,000.  Bakersfield Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Special vehicles have been measuring air quality block-by-block in Bakersfield since June as part of a $27 million program led by the California Air Resources Board and Aclima—these vehicles track pollutants like black carbon, carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide in underserved communities and help provide local jobs. The data is sent to the state and monitoring will continue until March.  23ABC News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bakersfield now accepts applications for its 2025—2026 City Hall Fellowship under the Youth Jobs Program, with the window open from July 25 until Aug. 22 at 11:59 p.m. Applicants must be at least 18 by June 2 and under 30 by Aug. 22, and fellows will work 20 hours per week for 10 months at $25 per hour while gaining hands-on experience and professional development opportunities — all provided through Kern Community Foundation.  KGET
