  • A man fell into a canal near Oak and 24th early Thursday and was rescued when Jaime Moreno called 911, prompting a police officer to throw his canine partner’s leash for support until the fire department arrived—rescue crews then took him to a hospital.  KGET

  • A LendingTree survey ranked Bakersfield number eight for DUI rates among the 50 largest U.S. cities, and a pedestrian was killed in a DUI crash on West Flamingo near South Rainbow today.  Bakersfield Now
  • Gabriela Flores Rodriguez, 54, was fatally stabbed outside her south Bakersfield home on Tuesday after her neighbor, Derrick Williams, 50, allegedly watched her arrive and decided to kill her—Williams, who was still covered in blood when he surrendered, faces first-degree murder charges and is held without bail.  KGET
  • A judge ordered three men to stand trial for a fatal shooting that killed Jeremy Charles Littlejohn and wounded four others in a 2018 incident on Chandler Court in southwest Bakersfield — evidence included DNA on shell casings and a reenactment in a rap video — with a hearing set later this month to choose a trial date.  KGET
  • A 21-year-old woman named Ashley Cabe was arrested in west Bakersfield on Thursday night after her stolen car became disabled at about 9:20 p.m.—deputies reported she refused to exit the vehicle and allegedly assaulted a peace officer with a firearm.  KGET

  • Bakersfield's government has partnered with Symbium to launch a digital permit system that gives online approvals in 10 to 15 minutes — officials noted that the six-month pilot processed over 500 permits.
