A new study from the University of Hawaiʻi finds that stress along the Southern San Andreas Fault is at a 1,000-year high, and geologist Matthew Herman (who has tracked fault activity for decades) urges Bakersfield residents to check their earthquake preparedness as older buildings may be at risk.

Residents felt a 4.2 earthquake early Sunday near Frazier Park (3:38 a.m.) and experienced a 3.2 aftershock at 10:53 a.m., with no injuries or damage reported.
