- ➤ Kern County Animal Services took in 163 dogs after the July 4 holiday as celebrations stressed local shelters—emergency kennels were added to manage the overflow. Volunteers are fostering displaced pets while owners can reclaim them free of charge until July 14. 23ABC News

- ➤ Closing arguments resumed Tuesday in a trial of five men charged with murder and attempted murder linked to two 2021 shootings—including charges for the fatal shooting of Mario Bravo at Mesa Marin Sports Complex on Sept. 29 and a December shooting tied to a gang feud—while jurors will begin deliberations later this week.
