  • CAPK unveiled Covey Cottages in Oildale on Thursday, completing a five-year project to build 12 tiny homes for veterans in need. The project will potentially house veterans by the end of July using CAPK's coordinated entry system—IKEA donated furnishings and the community is asked to help.  Bakersfield Now

  • The Kern County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help finding 29-year-old Jimmy Flores who has been missing since May. He was last seen near California and Union avenues on May 10 and is 5 feet 3 inches tall, weighs 130 pounds with black hair, brown eyes and tattoos reading Victoria and Sabe (call 661-861-3110 for tips).  KGET
  • Bakersfield Police are asking for help to find Taranbir Kaur, a 20-year-old at-risk adult who went missing at 9:00 a.m. on June 26 on the 2600 block of Ricki Jeanne Avenue in south Bakersfield (she is 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighs 120 pounds, has black hair and brown eyes, and has a tattoo reading Askush).  Bakersfield Now
  • On June 25, officers served a search warrant at a Belle Terrace residence where they found 6,000 pounds of copper wire and arrested three Bakersfield residents—Filimon Gil Villagrana, Teresa Garcia Rodales and Christian Vasquez Hernandez—on charges including conspiracy, illegal possession and related offenses.  KGET
  • On June 26th, 2025, marking ten years since Officer David Nelson died in a car accident after a high-speed chase, his father Larry Nelson recalled his son’s warm smile and lasting legacy in Bakersfield, noted in memorials such as the Officer David Nelson Memorial Scholarship, David Nelson Pocket Park, and a memorial bridge (Hosking Bridge renamed in his honor). Julian Hernandez, who has been serving 31 years to life since 2018, will ask for a re-sentencing in October after a recent hearing returned his case to trial court.  Bakersfield Now
  • Jonathan Goodrich, 45, repeatedly robbed a local Rite Aid store and pepper-sprayed an employee as captured on video from incidents between July 15 and July 25, 2024—resulting in a third-strike conviction and a 100-year-to-life sentence on Thursday.  KGET
  • Bakersfield police are asking the public for help finding Robert Alexander, a 70-year-old man with medical concerns who was last seen on June 26 in the 400 block of 34th Street — he is described as 6 feet tall, 225 pounds, bald and with brown eyes.  Bakersfield Now
  • A Kern County sheriff’s detentions lieutenant, Patrick McNeill, was arraigned on nine felony counts after crashing twice within hours while allegedly driving drunk — the charges include DUI causing injury, hit-and-run resulting in injury and resisting arrest — and he posted bond while a preliminary hearing is set for September 17.  KGET

  • Alekha Goldberg from Peak to Peak Mountain Charter won first place in the National History Day contest in Maryland, beating nearly 3,000 students. She had already been the top winner at her school, county, and state levels—her project explained how Blue Lake was returned to the Taos Puebloans after 64 years of legal battles.  23ABC News
