  • Bakersfield moms Sarah Foltin of Flour and Salt Bakehouse, Katie Hill of Bread and Board, and Layne Bone of Layne’s Sourdough Co. began baking sourdough for family during the pandemic and have grown their businesses as more locals value real bread — driven by social media trends and personal passion. Katie is now selling her bread at Sully’s Markets and Layne is offering bread-making classes and a century-old starter at White Star Ranch — showing that this small bakery movement is here to stay.  KGET

CRIME NEWS

  • The Bakersfield Police Department said a pedestrian struck in a hit-and-run at Baker and Sumner died the next day and a driver died at Baker Street and Niles after a separate crash that left two vehicles on fire on Saturday around 6:02 p.m. — toxicology results are pending.  Bakersfield Now
  • A 19-year-old, unlicensed man driving a BMW ran a red light on Union Ave at 11:30 p.m. on June 10 and crashed into a Dodge Charger, killing driver Jason Munoz-Cruz and injuring a passenger + police said he showed obvious signs of alcohol impairment and he faces charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, DUI causing injury, reckless driving, driving without a license, running a red light and speeding while he is held on $700,000 bail with a court appearance set for June 30.  KGET
  • The Bakersfield Police Department is asking for help finding 16-year-old Mario Guerrero, who was last seen Saturday night around 11 p.m. in the 1400 block of Telegraph Avenue and is described as 6 feet tall, 120 pounds, with black hair, brown eyes and wearing a blue shirt, blue jeans and black shoes; anyone with information should call (6613277111).  KGET
  • A 17-year-old boy named Lorenzo Prieto was arraigned in juvenile court on murder charges for fatally shooting 20-year-old Izaiah Thor Rodriguez near Stockdale Village Shopping Center—defense attorney entered a not guilty plea while prosecutors plan a transfer to adult court with a hearing scheduled for August.  KGET
  • The Bakersfield Police are asking for help to find 15-year-old Alessandra Areli Ochoa Lopez who was last seen at 12:01 a.m. June 22 in the 1000 block of 33rd Street wearing gray and black pajamas and a black hooded sweatshirt (she has no history of running away), and anyone with information should call 661-327-7111.  KGET

  • County Supervisor Phillip Peters said his office has contacted SoCal Edison, CPUC and local lawmakers to help residents in the Kern River Valley facing public safety power shutoffs — his office is running cooling centers, providing transportation and meal support until a long-term fix is found — as frustrations have risen over the past two weeks.  23ABC News
