ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On June 15 at 11:38 p.m., a 2013 Chevrolet Impala driven by a 21-year-old man struck and killed Carissa Marie Sileo—a 34-year-old bicyclist riding without lights—on Roberts Lane near Plymouth Avenue in Bakersfield; police said alcohol or drugs were not suspected in the crash.  Bakersfield Now

CRIME NEWS

  • Kira Burton — a fugitive who shot Michael Rico Stubbs at a red light on March 22 — was convicted of first-degree murder on June 18 in Bakersfield and faces a life sentence with sentencing set for July 18.  Bakersfield Now
  • Mister Bailey, accused of murdering his 3‑month‑old son and assaulting children in his Tehachapi home as ring video evidence shows, will represent himself at trial set for Aug. 11 (Judge Oglesby warned that his lack of legal experience may lead to key testimony being dropped).  KGET
  • A preliminary hearing began in east Bakersfield in the murder case of Robert Overdevest, who died three days after being shot on July 18 last year, with Ashley Ruiz—39, Rhys Casterline—23, and Gabriel Valle—25 accused during an argument as Ruiz admitted she only meant to scare him and all three are held without bail.  KGET

  • Bakersfield Commons Logistic Park—a project 18 months in the making at 2152 Coffee Road—will offer 300,000 square feet of warehouse and distribution space when it is completed by November. The project, developed by Rexco in partnership with World Oil, will hire local construction workers to boost our local job market.  23ABC News

  • Senate Minority Leader Brian W. Jones has ordered an independent audit of CARB and started a statewide petition to stop changes that may raise gas prices by 65 cents a gallon.
