- ➤ On Thursday, Kern County Firefighters battled a trailer fire at Superior Mobile Homes Park in Oildale—spreading to a nearby house—and just over an hour later a separate fire sparked by metal cutting broke out, with officials saying both incidents are under investigation for possible arson amid triple-digit heat. - ➤ The Bakersfield Police Department asked residents for help identifying two suspects who robbed a Fastrip at 1200 Coffee Rd on June 1 at 5:30 a.m. by using a firearm to demand money before fleeing in a gray Mercedes SUV—one suspect is described as a thin man wearing glasses, a hooded sweater, blue jeans, a face mask and blue nitrile gloves while the other may be an obese person in all-black clothing. - ➤ A 27-year-old woman, Hisa Ann Castillo, is facing felony charges after she allegedly drove drunk and hit a parked car on Highway 178 at 1 a.m. on June 13, killing one and injuring another — she is held on $700,000 bail and is due in court on June 27. KGET
- ➤ A Kern County jury found 28-year-old Kira Conerly-Burton II guilty of first-degree murder for fatally shooting Michael Rico Stubbs in central Bakersfield on March 22—he will face a life term at next month’s sentencing hearing. KGET
- ➤ Michael Allen Fontes is set for retrial on Aug. 4 — he was accused of raping Cari Anderson in 1997 and leaving her for dead after an attack that left her with severe injuries before she died in 2021 — following a 2023 trial that acquitted him of sodomy while the jury deadlocked on other charges. KGET
- ➤ In Kern County 2024, 6,985 cases of elder abuse were reported—experts note that only 1 in 44 cases of financial abuse is reported— and seniors are advised to freeze credit and set up banking alerts to catch unusual transactions. 23ABC News

- ➤ As summer heats up, officials warn that hot, dry conditions in our region raise wildfire risks, and campfires are banned below 5,000 feet in Sequoia National Forest — visitors must keep fires supervised and fully doused to prevent accidents.
