  • The Renaissance at Baker opened Monday at 9 a.m. at 1001 Baker Street in Old Town Kern, providing 85 affordable one, two and three-bedroom apartments and an employment training and resource center for low-income renters. City officials said this opening is part of a broader effort to revitalize the historic neighborhood — adding new bus stops and bike lanes.  KGET

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Just after 10 p.m., the Kern County Fire Department responded to a fire at Poso Creek Family Dairy on the 13000 block of Gun Club Road—evacuating employees and nearby residents in a two-mile radius as nearly 20,000 gallons of compressed natural gas were threatened, and the fire was later put out without injuries since the pressure relief valves worked correctly.  Bakersfield Now

CRIME NEWS

  • Bakersfield authorities said 71-year-old Neal Stuart Pendleton—accused of sharing child pornography—was arraigned on two felony charges Monday, is held at Lerdo Jail on $100,000 bail and will have a preliminary hearing June 30 following a search warrant served June 9 on Shattuck Avenue.  KGET
  • Nathon Ramirez, an alleged DUI driver, failed to appear in court after a June 10 crash at the intersection of Union and East California that fatally injured a Dodge Charger driver; he faces four felony charges including gross vehicular manslaughter, driving without a license, and speeding, and his arraignment is scheduled for this afternoon.  Bakersfield Now
  • Two people were charged on Tuesday for allegedly stealing about $100 million in jewelry from a Brinks truck at a Lebec rest stop in 2022 — the largest jewelry heist in U.S. history — and they appeared in federal court.  Bakersfield Now
  • Lorenzo Nathaniel Prieto, 17, was arrested in connection with the deadly shooting of 20-year-old Izaiah Thor Rodriguez, who died at Kern Medical after being shot Friday at 11:57 p.m. on Stockdale Highway near the Stockdale Village Shopping Center—Prieto is due in juvenile court this week.  KGET
  • An Arvin man, 44-year-old Jeffrey Ruiz, was arrested on felony charges for sexually abusing an 11-year-old after being caught on surveillance video—police suspect other victims while he remains in custody without bail and is set to appear in court on June 26.  KGET
