ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Multiple California Highway Patrol units responded to a collision in South Bakersfield on Sunday afternoon when a vehicle overturned and hit a brick wall at 1501 Wilson Road—crews taped off the intersection as cleanup continued while the cause remains under investigation.  Bakersfield Now

CRIME NEWS

  • Bakersfield Police are asking community members to help locate a missing teen from Real Road, who is considered at risk because he has never run away before.  The Bakersfield Californian
  • A juvenile was arrested today at about 4:51 a.m. in southwest Bakersfield after officers responded to gunfire on Stockdale Highway (5600 block) and recovered a gun (believed to be used in the fatal shooting), with a witness identifying the suspect and the victim pronounced dead at Kern Medical.  KUZZ
  • Two pedestrians walking in an Oildale alley were struck and trapped under a vehicle when the driver fled on foot after a slow-speed deputy pursuit on Saturday night—Kern County officials said.  The Bakersfield Californian
  • Bakersfield police are asking the community for help finding at-risk 75-year-old Viet Truong, who was last seen on June 14th at 4:50 p.m. in the 11900 block of Wethersfield St—he is 5’04” tall, 160 lbs, has short white hair and dark brown eyes and was wearing a white Adidas shirt, blue Adidas shorts and blue Adidas shoes.  Bakersfield Now
  • On June 14th, Kern County deputies arrested a suspect after a slow-speed pursuit in Oildale led to two pedestrians being hit and hospitalized at Kern Medical with moderate to major injuries — the suspect was charged with felony hit and run, resisting an officer and evading arrest.  Bakersfield Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At Camp Owens in Kernville, Kern County Probation K-9 Officer Jessey Esposito and his dog Sepp practiced searching for evidence and making suspects surrender in training exercises. Esposito said the training boosts safety (a key gain) and added that Sepp will retire this summer (ending his service).  Bakersfield Now

  • Today, the Housing Authority of the County of Kern and the Ceasar Chavez Foundation will cut the ribbon for Renaissance at Baker, a new affordable housing complex at 1001 Baker Street in east Bakersfield scheduled to open at 9:00 a.m. The project includes 85 units — a job training center and neighborhood upgrades like bus stops and bike lanes — to help local families.  KUZZ
