A sold-out conference in Bakersfield marked World Elder Abuse Awareness Day as experts met this week to discuss rising financial scams and other forms of abuse.

Jeremy Oliver, director of Kern County Aging and Adult Services, said the meeting provided vital information on reporting and preventing abuse.

Cal State Bakersfield nursing students will travel to northern Argentina for a two-week Global Nursing Outreach mission (their first trip) where 21 students will do health outreach and take part in a workshop while learning Wichí, and the program has also sent students to Peru, Mexico, Costa Rica and Zambia.

City leaders proposed a $3M allocation to revitalize MLK Park following community concerns raised last week.

The proposal will be considered during the budget process later this month (aiming to renew neighborhood pride).
