  • On Saturday, hundreds gathered downtown at the Liberty Bell for the 'No Kings' protest that challenged recent immigration policies and emphasized the impacts on farm workers and local families. CRIME NEWS

  • Bakersfield police arrested an underage suspect in connection with a fatal shooting on Stockdale Highway on Friday at 11:57 p.m.—officers arrived after hearing multiple gunshots and found a man later pronounced dead at Kern Medical—and recovered a firearm after a witness identified the suspect in a lineup.  KGET
  • Two people were struck and trapped under a vehicle following a slow-speed chase yesterday near North Chester Avenue between Decatur Street and Lincoln Avenue around 9:15 p.m.—deputies pursued a suspect in a possibly stolen car driving at 15 mph who was later taken into custody, and the injured men were treated for moderate injuries at a hospital.  KGET
  • A male was shot and killed just before midnight Friday at the 5600 block of Stockdale Highway—west of California Avenue, and police arrested a juvenile suspect.  The Bakersfield Californian

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Firefighters worked Saturday at Mount Poso Conservation Plant Road south of Famoso Road to ensure the fire burned over 4,400 acres near Bakersfield was fully controlled — officials confirmed no further risk.  The Bakersfield Californian

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • More than 1,000 people gathered near the Liberty Bell in downtown Bakersfield on Saturday—carrying signs, waving flags, and chanting 'No kings, no reyes'—as part of a national day of peaceful protest against federal immigration policies and budget cuts. Local leaders said the protest called for better rights for immigrants and more support for public services.  23ABC News
