ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Residents near the dangerous intersection of Kern Street and Niles have demanded safer measures after a driver swerved, hit the stop sign, and crashed into a house on Thursday morning. Neighbors say speeding has led to multiple accidents, including fatal crashes — officials plan to meet with emergency services to review safety measures — to reduce risks for everyone.  Bakersfield Now
  • Daniel Aguirre, 22, lost his life late Saturday night when his silver Infiniti hit a tree and he was struck by a blue Honda near Old River Road and White Oak Drive in southwest Bakersfield — police said the Honda driver stayed at the scene and was not impaired.  KGET

CRIME NEWS

  • The Bakersfield Police Department is asking the public for help locating missing at-risk teen Mia Marina Torres, 15, who was last seen on June 10, 2025 at 2:30 p.m., in the 6600 block of Glacier Bay Street — west of Ashe Road and Panama Lane.  Bakersfield Now
  • Darwin Young, Jr. (20) was released from prison on May 21 after serving gun and gang charges and is accused of fatally shooting Damien Bullard (26) and Anthony Ochoa (27) in east Bakersfield six days later, with Turner (17) and Ruiz (20) also facing charges linked to an alleged Eastside Crips scheme.  KUZZ
  • Palmer Moland, a former Fairfax School District board member, was found guilty of filing a false declaration of candidacy and perjury in connection with his 2022 re-election and was acquitted on six other counts, and his sentencing will be held on July 9 where he could face over four years in prison — prosecutors said he misrepresented his residency.  Bakersfield Now
  • Jessa Zayas, 34, was indicted on six counts for healthcare fraud and aggravated identity theft for allegedly billing Medicare $2.5M for hospice care provided to non-terminal patients in Fresno and Kern counties from June 2023 through May—she ran two hospice agencies while also working another full-time job—, according to federal investigators.  Bakersfield Now
  • Bakersfield Police are seeking a bald man aged 30 to 40 who stole 20 rose bushes from the Police Activities Center on May 25 at 5:16 a.m.—he was last seen in khaki shorts, with black and white shoes and black and red gloves—and the loss is valued at $1,400.  KGET

  • Bakersfield Fire Department warns residents to use fireworks legally on July 2 and 3 from 9 a.m. to 12 a.m. and on July 4 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 a.m.—violators will face a minimum fine of $1,000.  KGET

SPORTS NEWS

  • James Cain was reinstated as head football coach at Golden Valley High School on June 9 after he was removed on June 5 due to district policy that gives preference to credentialed teachers. He announced the change on the team’s Instagram and received strong support from students, parents, and protestors at district offices — evidence of community backing.  Bakersfield Now
  • Contestants from all over California gathered at Bakersfield Country Club for an 18‐hole round in the US Amateur Local Qualifier, where 85 players competed to earn a spot in the championships. Of those, only 9 advanced, including 5 from Bakersfield and Stephen Hale — who reached the playoff game to become an alternate.  23ABC News
