  • Fairfax Jr Baseball Club will host a fundraiser carnival at 6 p.m. Monday, June 2 at the baseball fields at 1700 South Fairfax Road next to Fairfax Junior High School—raising funds for field maintenance. Bakersfield Animal Care Center will also hold an adoption event at the field with free microchips and dog tags as they prepare for their Fourth of July event.  KGET

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A motorcyclist died after a collision on Wilson Road in southwest Bakersfield on May 26 at 11:03 p.m. when a white Hyundai sedan making a left turn struck him broadside at the intersection of Wilson Road and Bladen Street (the driver, a woman, cooperated with police) (impairment was not suspected).  Bakersfield Now
  • The Kern County Coroner’s Office identified Bakersfield man Luis Fernando Camacena—a 21-year-old driver—as the victim in a two-truck crash on Highway 166 near Old River Road at about 9:40 p.m. on May 18.  Bakersfield Now
  • Bakersfield Police said Senaida Irene Angel, 44, was pronounced dead in a two-vehicle crash on Hosking Avenue and Hughes Lane at about 2:50 a.m. on May 21 after she made a left turn on red—while the other driver remained uninjured.  Bakersfield Now

CRIME NEWS

  • The FBI Sacramento Field Office offers a $20,000 reward for tips on Jesus Jose Astorga—allegedly involved in a fatal stabbing murder at a Shafter apartment on October 15, 1999 in Kern County and said to have fled to Mexico—to help secure his arrest and conviction.  Bakersfield Now
  • Two men died when Kern County Sheriff’s deputies responded Tuesday at 9:40 p.m. near Flower and Virginia streets in east Bakersfield—no suspects, victim names, or motives have been released.  KUZZ
  • A Kern County jury convicted Edward James Pull on May 23 for second-degree murder of his father and violent crimes against his mother in a 2017 attack—he faces multiple life sentences and will be sentenced on July 15.  Bakersfield Now

  • Supervisor Jeff Flores ordered the dismantling of homeless camps at 7 a.m. Friday in Oildale and eastern Bakersfield—an effort to continue removal measures.  KGET

  • Bakersfield’s Bako Bears—a dynamic flag football team—will represent the city in the NFL Flag Football Championships in July in Canton, Ohio. The team is hosting a fundraiser at Crusader Brewing on June 21 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. to help support their trip.  23ABC News
