  • Mothers Against Gang Violence held its 4th annual 500 Women March Saturday evening in Bakersfield — marchers gathered at the intersection of Belle Terrace Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and marched to Martin Luther King Jr. Park, where police joined the crowd.   • A report explains that dry plants, strong winds and dry lightning will raise wildfire risks as summer nears in Kern County — the sea breeze from cool ocean water and hot inland air creates a pressure difference that can spark fires — urging residents to stay alert.  Bakersfield Now
  • Wildfires have been a major threat in Kern County as more than 8,000 fires burned over one million acres statewide in 2024. The Borel Fire—which started after a fatal crash off Highway 178 that destroyed over 200 structures in Havilah—was declared contained on September 16th.  Bakersfield Now
