- ➤ At 6:26 p.m. today, a major traffic collision occurred at the intersection of South Union Ave and Garden Drive when a vehicle struck a wall and a Jeep hit a parked car that then collided with a nearby business—reporting significant injuries with one man found unconscious while the California Highway Patrol investigates the incident. - ➤ The Bakersfield Police Department is asking the community for help finding 14-year-old Bella Richardson, who was last seen May 23rd at 4:00 p.m. in the 1200 block of New Stine Road (she is identified as having black hair, brown eyes, and wearing a red shirt, black jeans, and a pink backpack and is considered at risk given this is her first time running away). - ➤ Detectives with the Kern County Sheriff’s Office arrested Delano men Pedro Mendez Gonzalez, 39, and Gonzalo Villalobos, 46, at the 10000 block of San Jose Avenue after a months-long investigation linked them to thefts of brass irrigation valves that caused several thousand dollars in equipment damage from north Kern County farmland—authorities said they stripped the brass for cash. - ➤ Trial began Friday at Kern County Superior Court for former Fairfax trustee Palmer Moland on felony charges that include filing false nomination papers, illegally registering to vote, fraudulent voting and perjury—two embezzlement charges were dismissed earlier this month. KGET
- ➤ Cristian Escobar-Rodriguez, the driver of a Dodge Charger, was found guilty of gross vehicular manslaughter — two DUI causing injury charges and driving without a license — after a single-vehicle crash on April 3rd that killed a passenger and injured three others, and his sentencing is set for July 1. - ➤ Kern County officials announced that the cooling center season will run from Sunday, June 1 to Monday, Sept. 22, with centers opening when forecasts reach 105 degrees in valley areas, 108 degrees in desert areas, and 93 degrees in Frazier Park. Centers will operate from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. — a Cooling Centers Daily Report will be issued by 11:00 a.m. the day before each center opens. KGET
