  • Erik Nelson set up a booth at the Luke Bryan Farm Tour in Shafter on Saturday to raise funds for the Officer David Nelson Memorial Scholarship, which is awarded each year to two high school students, and he discussed his plans at 23ABC on Friday ahead of his late brother’s 10th anniversary. He and his father attended a memorial ceremony outside the police headquarters during National Peace Officers Week + the event reinforces the community’s tribute to the fallen officer.  23ABC News

  • An individual was found dead near railroad tracks in east Bakersfield early this morning after a collision between a train and a pedestrian near Weedpatch Hwy and Edison Hwy (Kern County Fire Department reported it).  Bakersfield Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Saturday, more than 100 students and families received free laptops and internet access at Greater Harvest Christian Center through a digital divide program led by the emPOWERment Foundation—partnering with AT&T. This three-year initiative grew from 50 devices in its first year to 200 last year and now aims to help students in Bakersfield succeed in school.  23ABC News
