  • On May 6, Give Big Kern raised over $1.75 million for 138 nonprofits serving animal welfare, education, veteran, and mental health causes—donors also pledged 7,888 volunteer hours and matching sponsors added nearly $344,000 in funds.  KGET

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The California Highway Patrol reported a fatal crash on Highway 119 near Elk Hills Tuesday at 4:47 p.m.—a semi-truck and an SUV collided and the SUV caught fire, killing one person.  KGET
  • New crosswalk markings were painted at Bank Street and Holtby Road in Oleander-Sunset where 8-year-old Ricardo Ismael Aguilar was fatally struck in October 2024, and BCSD Superintendent Mark Luque said a crossing guard will be assigned soon — a measure councilmember Andrae Gonzales said honors his memory.  Bakersfield Now

  • A hearing held in Kings County Superior Court yesterday discussed evidence leaks, privacy concerns about attorney visits, and the death penalty in Jamie Osuna’s case—he is accused of killing his cellmate at Corcoran State Prison in 2019 while defense and prosecution plan to meet in mid-August for updates.  KGET
  • The Bakersfield Police Department is searching for a missing 16-year-old girl last seen on Truxtun Avenue near V Street on Tuesday at about 7:20 a.m.—she is 5 feet tall, weighs 130 pounds, has brown hair and black eyes, and was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and blue and white Vans shoes with anyone having information urged to call 661-327-7111.  KGET
  • Alexa Nicole Rugless, a 16-year-old last seen at 11 p.m. on May 12th in Pine Mountain Club, is missing and may be in Santa Clarita Valley — the Kern County Sheriff's Office asks anyone with information to help locate her.  Bakersfield Now
