- ➤ North of the River Parks and Recreation has opened sign-ups for baseball and softball teams for kids aged 8 to 15; the season will start on Monday, June 9 and run until Tuesday, August 1 + a $195 fee includes a shirt, hat, and socks. - ➤ Rescuers from the Bakersfield Fire Department operated for hours (rescued Saturday night) to save at least four people stranded on an island in the Kern River near Lake Ming (two were children) with no injuries reported. KGET

- ➤ Fidel Habana Vargas, 35, from Tulare, is facing felony charges for gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated plus two DUI-related counts after his Toyota Camry ran a stop sign on May 7 on Wallace Rd east of Delano and hit a truck that killed Oliver Campuzano Villalva, 24 — he pleaded not guilty and is held without bail with his next hearing set for May 19. - ➤ The trial of Caleb Nathaniel Rodriguez, charged with murder and gross vehicular manslaughter in the March 7 hit-and-run that killed bicyclist Raven Mora, has been postponed to July 21 after a court hearing reviewed his charges (he is also accused of fleeing the scene while driving on a suspended license). - ➤ The Kern County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to help find 13-year-old Jazmin Taliulu—she was last seen near Lincoln Avenue, is believed to be with her boyfriend Lupe, and is described as a Pacific Islander, 5 ft 5 in tall, 120 pounds with black hair and grey eyes while wearing a black tank top, pink jeans and black Crocs. - ➤ Rapper Tory Lanez was stabbed at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi and rushed to a Bakersfield hospital—he is now held at North Kern State Prison in Delano. Bakersfield Now
- ➤ Jeremy Daniel Cruzen, 47, was arraigned Monday on a first-degree murder charge for the 2014 death of Christopher Wagstaff outside the downtown courthouse using large rocks—he remains in custody without bail with a preliminary hearing set for May 22. KGET
