  • Bakersfield Firefighter’s Burn Foundation will hold a lunch fundraiser at Outback Steakhouse to send youth burn survivors to a weeklong camp—helping pay for camp costs—and giving survivors a chance to heal. Organizers say the funds will cover travel and camp fees.  The Bakersfield Californian
  • Les Schwab Tire Centers hosted a community event on May 7-8 to celebrate its Tires for Purpose initiative by donating new tires to ten local non-profits that use their vehicles for vital services plus offering live tire installation demonstrations at four locations.   • A man involved in an overnight standoff with SWAT and alleged to have fired multiple rounds while fleeing a family party in Oildale is now facing 26 charges including 23 felonies — his bail was denied and a hearing is pending.  Bakersfield Now
  • Kern County Animal Services is asking for help in identifying a suspect accused of placing an injured dog in a dumpster on the 3300 block of Niles Street in east Bakersfield — a circulated video shows the animal wrapped in a blanket being dropped between 1:40 and 2 a.m.  KUZZ
  • Two Vagos biker gang members accepted plea deals after a February arrest in Mojave—Robert Allen Klein pled no contest to gun possession by a felon and James Melville Rogers Jr. pled no contest to receiving known stolen property and possession of ammunition by a prohibited person; sentencing is set for July 16.  KGET
  • Bakersfield Police are asking residents for help finding Carlos Munoz, a 17-year-old runaway last seen May 7 at 10:45 p.m. in the 5200 block of Cherry Tree Lane near Wilson and New Stine Roads (call 661-327-7111 if you have information).  Bakersfield Now

  • Local Catholics in Kern County celebrated the election of Pope Leo XIV—the first American-born pope—as parishioners from Saint Clement and Saint Francis expressed hope for his leadership despite surprise that he did not speak English in his first address. Community members shared their excitement by gathering for Mass and calling each other to mark this historic occasion.  23ABC News
