ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Just before 4 a.m., an overturned box truck blocked all southbound lanes on 99 near County Line Road in Delano when it swerved to avoid a speeding vehicle and was hit on its driver side — the Bakersfield Fire Department is diverting traffic onto County Lane Road.  Bakersfield Now

CRIME NEWS

  • Bakersfield police arrested four drivers in April for illegal street racing—two were stopped on Stockdale Highway on April 13 at 5:30 p.m. and two on 24th Street on April 29 at 9:15 a.m.—and their vehicles were impounded for 30 days as charges were forwarded.  Bakersfield Now
  • On Saturday, Bakersfield police arrested Tomice Fryman (51) for a deadly hit-and-run that closed Westside Parkway for several hours when officers found a man struck in the eastbound lanes (near the Mohawk off-ramp) as the investigation continues.  23ABC News
  • Bakersfield Police Department is asking for help finding Michael Salazar, a missing 14-year-old runaway last seen on May 3 at about 6:00 p.m. on the 4000 block of Fairwood Street south of Panorama Drive in northeast Bakersfield, described as 5’4” tall and 115 pounds with black hair and brown eyes wearing a black shirt, a black puffer jacket, black sweats and red and black shoes+ anyone with information should call 661-327-7111.  Bakersfield Now

  • Jim Young, the longtime former chancellor of Kern Community College District, died at age 86—four days after the new library at Bakersfield College’s Arvin campus was dedicated in his honor. He spent decades championing education and supporting farmworker communities until his passing.  KGET

  • Randy Raymond—a Kern County firefighter—rang a celebratory bell after finishing his last cancer treatment at Adventist Cancer Center last Friday. He rang the bell three times to mark the end of treatment and said he was excited to be done.  KGET
