  • American Kids Sports Center will open its new youth training center in Bakersfield on Mother's Day, May 10, offering programs in gymnastics, swimming, dance, and a Ninja Zone program. The facility will serve 5,000 kids weekly and create 250 jobs (aimed at boosting opportunities in the growing southwest area).  23ABC News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Sunday, May 3, firefighters in Kern County responded to a wind-driven grass fire that burned 25 acres and threatened nearby homes but was quickly contained with no injuries reported.  Bakersfield Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A fast moving vegetation fire is burning over 2,000 acres near Edison Highway and Comanche Drive, with winds pushing the flames north and east. Local authorities have issued an evacuation warning for the area.  23ABC News
