- ➤ Kern County firefighters responded at 10:25 a.m. on May 3rd to a mobile home fire on the 200 block of Salaine Drive in Bodfish—neighbors reported a possible resident inside, and crews quickly rescued two dogs, returning them to their family while the blaze caused significant damage with no injuries reported. - ➤ The Bakersfield Police Department is investigating a suspicious death along eastbound lanes of Westside Parkway between Coffee Rd and Truxtun Ave off-ramp + the lanes are closed for the next few hours while officers work the scene. Bakersfield Now
- ➤ On May 2, 2025, deputies from the Kern County Sheriff's Office, Gang Suppression Unit and Taft Police Department executed a search warrant in the 500 block of Garfield Avenue in Taft that ended with the arrest of 30-year-old Shawn Dakota Smith, who is accused of false imprisonment, resisting arrest and multiple outstanding warrants and was booked into Lerdo jail.
