- ➤ On April 2, 2025, the California Board of Parole Hearings denied parole to repeat sex offender Timothy Groux, who has served 16 years of a 25-year to life sentence, citing his high risk of reoffense and lack of sex offender programming—commissioners issued a three-year denial following concerns that his dangerous history continued to threaten public safety. - ➤ On April 7, Bakersfield Police asked residents for help identifying a slim man in his 20s or 30s who allegedly robbed and assaulted a security guard in a parking lot on the 4100 block of California Avenue while wearing a black Adidas hat, black shirt and pants plus white Nike shoes. KGET
- ➤ Owens Longmire and Kaylah Pearson were arrested in Bakersfield on Friday for allegedly trafficking a minor as Longmire faces six felony charges and Pearson is charged with pandering and prostitution of a minor (bail is set at $500,000 for Longmire and $140,000 for Pearson), and they will appear in court again on June 2nd. 23ABC News

- ➤ Congressman Valadao and Congressman Costa introduced the bipartisan Safety Training for Officers on Public Health Threats Act, which will offer grants for law enforcement training to recognize health risks from building code violations following a 2023 Reedley bio lab incident. - ➤ The Bakersfield water district proposed a 34% rate increase to pay for safe and clean drinking water — the change will affect West and North Bakersfield property owners and businesses.
