- ➤ On Monday, a truck from PETA drove to Bakersfield Barbecue Company on 21st St. showing images and sounds of pigs in painful crates—owner Brandon Slichter said he planned to have fun with the protest and expected more people, though only the truck driver came. KGET
- ➤ About 2,000 people volunteered on Saturday to clean 50 sites in the city during the Great American Cleanup. - ➤ Family members of murdered teen Amanda Zubia said they are outraged after convicted killer Maricruz Galaviz was granted parole on April 17—an outcome they believe leaves true justice unmet—despite the brutal nature of the 2004 crime. KGET
- ➤ Dustin Towery, a repeat shoplifter with previous convictions, was sentenced today to two years in jail under Proposition 36 for stealing two scooters from Target at Riverwalk—Judge Elisabet Rodriguez denied probation and ruled he must stay at least 100 yards away from all Target stores.
