- ➤ The Kern County Sheriff's Office is asking for help to locate missing Theodore 'Ted' Waayers — he was last contacted via cellphone on March 1st between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. and his family is concerned. Bakersfield Now
- ➤ Cesar Hernandez, an escaped inmate from Delano who killed a police officer in Mexico nine days ago, was arrested at a house with no chance to escape—Mexican Army Special Forces were present to prevent another attempt. Bakersfield Now
- ➤ Bakersfield Police are asking the public to help find missing 15 year old Richard Romero who was last seen on April 17 at 5:20 p.m. on the 12800 block of Rosedale Highway wearing a black shirt and gray shorts and is at risk as a first time runaway. Bakersfield Now
- ➤ Jeremy Pletcher, accused of stealing beer from Rite Aid, fired several shots at a deputy during a chase Tuesday that led to a large law enforcement response; he surrendered after a two-hour standoff and is charged with attempted murder and assault on a peace officer (held on $560,000 bail and due in court April 29). - ➤ In March, Kern County’s unemployment rate hit 9.5%—up 0.2% from February and 0.5% higher than January, and slightly lower than last March’s 9.7%. Meanwhile, state and national rates fell from 5.5% to 5.3% and from 4.5% to 4.2%, respectively. KGET
