  • Local agencies and off-road enthusiasts joined a search on Saturday, March 28 in the Wagon Wheel area near Ridgecrest to locate a missing 9-year-old off-road rider, who was safely reunited with his parents.  Bakersfield Now
  • Beale Memorial Library will host the Lil' Bunnies Egg Hunt for children up to age 5 on April 2 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The event will feature story time, sensory play, art and an Easter egg hunt.  Bakersfield Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Donna C. Rowe, a Vietnam War nurse (captain at the 3rd Field Hospital near Saigon in June 1968), shared her war stories at a downtown Bakersfield ceremony. The event gave local residents a unique look at her military service.  The Bakersfield Californian

  • Gubernatorial candidate Katie Porter (former U.S. House member) will hold a meet and greet in Bakersfield at 2 p.m. today to allow local voters to learn about her campaign.  The Bakersfield Californian
  • Kern Transit is adding a new bus stop at Hard Rock Casino in Tejon on Route 130 starting July 5 to boost rider access and support job opportunities. The updated schedule will be released in June.  23ABC News
  • A proposed bill would let drivers install conversion kits so vehicles can use E85 fuel (a blend of ethanol and gasoline) for savings as gas prices rise. Led by Assemblymember Ransom, the legislation may pass by year-end, with a few Bakersfield stations already offering E85.  23ABC News
  • California renamed Cesar Chavez Day to Farmworkers Day today after abuse allegations led lawmakers to pass a unanimous bill + the change shifts focus to honoring farmworkers' contributions.  Bakersfield Now
