  • CAPK is hosting a hygiene donation drive at the M Street Navigation Center to collect soap, socks, and toothbrushes for residents experiencing homelessness; donations are accepted during regular business hours at 2900 M Street.  23ABC News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Greenfield, Ollivier, and McKee Middle Schools from Greenfield School District will compete in the State Science and Engineering Fair on April 11 and 12 at Cal Lutheran University (historic achievement) after each earned first place at the county competition, a first for the district.  23ABC News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Arvin will add two electric buses to its fleet by year’s end—boosting its push for cleaner, cost-effective public transit while offering free rides until the end of April. Mayor Calderon said the improved service supports community health and environmental savings.  Bakersfield Now
  • Open Door Network lost its contract with the Kern County DA office and the Family Justice Center, with victim services set to continue using internal funding. The change takes effect April 1 at its 1921 19th Street location & Skidmore said the move was unexpected.  23ABC News
  • Caltrans announced Highway 46 closures next week for road work. In Wasco, access will close overnight (Sunday, Mar. 15, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.) for bridge prep, and in Lost Hills drivers will face lane limits (Monday, Mar. 16, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.) for paving lasting three weeks.  Bakersfield Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • Former CSUB athlete and Kern County probation officer Jordan Olivares was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome in November, leaving her paralyzed from the neck down with slight finger movement returning.
