  • BC faculty led a multilingual community storytime at Shafter Library on Feb. 27 during the Shafter Colours Festival, reading a picture book in English, Spanish, and ASL and guiding a craft activity.  Bakersfield College
  • A California City resident spotted an injured dog missing its nose near 92nd Street and Fir Avenue last Thursday and alerted police for a welfare check; the dog, now called Bear (receiving antibiotics at Quartz Hill Veterinary Clinic), is under care as officials review the incident.  Bakersfield Now

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Two new Target stores will soon open in Kern County. The Bakersfield store (6301 Gosford Road) and the Delano store (321 Woolomes Avenue) will each offer a Starbucks and a pharmacy, create over 300 jobs, and have grand openings on Sunday, March 15.  Bakersfield Now

  • Bluey's Big Play brings the Emmy-winning children’s series live to Dignity Health Theater on Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. + Tickets go on sale Friday, March 13 at 10 a.m. on AXS.com and at the box office.  Bakersfield Now

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Rep. Valadao said rising fuel and input costs are straining local farmers as prices for water, electricity, and diesel have increased yearly. Local fourth-generation farmer Jason Giannelli (Kern County native) and Farm Bureau officials believe boosting state oil production could help reduce these costs.  23ABC News

  • After Mar. 9 at Delano Union Elementary, 25 students received free guitars donated by Guitars4Kids (sponsored by the Nora Rose-Hines Foundation) to explore music while the district proclaimed Music in Schools Month.  23ABC News

  • Hard Rock Casino Tejon honored Sheriff Donny Youngblood and Fire Chief Aaron Duncan with custom guitars as it marked the upcoming opening of Kern County’s new sheriff’s substation funded by the Tejon Tribe.   • Stretch Zone now offers assisted stretching sessions designed to improve mobility and ease muscle tension.
