Local volunteers including students from Kern High Regional Occupational Center repainted and updated the Bakersfield Sheriff’s Activities League facility today; the full renovation will finish by summer while organizers seek donations.

Local business leaders gathered at the Harriet Hotel as Vince Roche from Cushman and Wakefield explained progress on the City Lights project — formerly East Hills Mall.

The 35-acre site — with 18 leases including Sprouts — is set to break ground and open later in 2026.
