  • Madison Gadberry, a Bakersfield native, volunteers to clean local parks and has collected hundreds of pounds of trash at Yokuts Park. She runs Instagram account Keep Kern Clean (sharing cleanup schedules and tips) to inspire community members to help protect local green spaces.  23ABC News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Hard Rock Casino Tejon paid out $29 million during January, distributing winnings in over 6,000+ jackpots with about 200 winners daily receiving prizes of at least $2,000. The casino opened a few months ago and has shown strong momentum.  23ABC News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • West High's Pawp Culture firm placed fifth out of 11 at the Virtual Enterprise State Conference and will advance to a national event in New York in April (the team met with Eyewitness News before the announcement).  Bakersfield Now
  • University Police Chief Mari Gonzalez reported that a third-party vendor error caused some CSUB lockdown notifications to be missed yesterday during a campus emergency (the threat was later confirmed as false). The vendor issue is fixed and a campus-wide text will be sent to verify the alert system.  Bakersfield Now
  • Persistent fog has disrupted school routines in Bakersfield as multiple districts (Delano Union six delays, Lakeside Union with four delays and three closures, and Kern High with three delays) adjust schedules to add instructional minutes and may seek a waiver for extra makeup time.  Bakersfield Now
  • Local support helped Kern gain an edge in the Virtual Enterprise California State Conference held at the Dignity Health Convention Center on Thursday.   • Bakersfield College hosted a Black History Month kickoff on Thursday, Feb. 5 at the CSS Lawn to mark its designation as a Black Serving Institution — a milestone for advancing equity.
